I’ve set myself a target word count for both A Wounded Heart and The Truths We Live and I’m working towards having a first draft of both finished by the end of 2016. Currently, both books are just under 20% ‘finished’ – if you go by my target.
Of course, I’ve never been very good at sticking to word counts. A Tortured Soul was supposed to be around 90,000 words, but it ended up being nearly 130,000. So that 20% estimate could well be on the high side.
I wouldn’t normally work on two novels at the same time, but I feel I really need to this time around. A Tortured Soul took a lot out of me emotionally and I expect that A Wounded Heart will do the same—it already is and I haven’t really gotten to the ‘meat’ of the story yet. Which is why I’m taking turns with the two books, one week on AWH and one on TTWL.
The Truths We Live is giving me some ‘light relief’. The Truths We Live was a fun book to write with some really fun characters (mostly Mel, to be honest) and TTWL is proving to be the same. I wrote a scene this week with Bobby and the girls in a restaurant and the waitress recognised them. Bobby ended up having his photo taken with the waitress and the girls and Mel posted them on Twitter. Fun to write. All scenes with Mel are fun to write—although that might change later in the book because she’s got a bit of a ‘journey’ to go on.
Anyway, that’s where I am. I’ll try and keep you updated as I make more progress.
